Microsatellite DNA Development Service

As a service to the scientific community, the SREL DNA Laboratory offers microsatellite locus development on a cost-reimbursement basis. We have been developing microsatellite DNA loci since 1991. Since that time we have developed loci for >200 species, with representatives from all eukaryotic kingdoms. We have assisted researchers in the US and worldwide. We do this primarily for the benefit of the scientific community, not as a commercial venture. Please contact Dr. Stacey Lance at msatdevo@gmail.com with any questions and to discuss scheduling. See links above for shipping information and order forms.

Microsatellite Development Using 454 Sequencing

We have now completely transitioned to using 454 sequencing for microsatellite development. We have completed the sequencing stage for numerous species (including amphibians, fish, snakes, invertebrates) and the results are better than any published methods using 454 for microsatellite development. We have completed several projects and are getting on average ~16 polymorphic loci per project. For more information, please view our 454 sequencing FAQ or contact us directly.

Current Options:

  • We enrich your DNA for microsatellites and ship the DNA back to you.
  • We sequence the enriched DNA and design primers for at least 36 loci.
  • We order primers for at least 36 loci, screen the loci across several individuals, and then genotype up to 24 DNA samples across the optimized polymorphic loci.
  • Additional non-standard development of microsatellites, and other genetic markers and techniques.
